Project title: Climate Adaptive Livelihood Security of Sundarbans Resource Dependent Communities (CALS-SRDC)

Project Goal: To increase livelihood diversification, food security and climate adaptive capacity change among vulnerable Sundarbans resource harvesters and their families.

Location of project: Mongla Upazilla under Bagerhat district and Dacope Upazilla under Khulna district of Bangladesh

The Cooperative Based Climate Resilient Livelihood activities include.

  • Mobilization for the formation of 8 Sundarbans stakeholder group and 2 associations.
  • Money savings by the project beneficiaries.
  • Boat License Certificate (BLC) support, the permission of boat for Sundarbans entrance.
  • Alternative to Nypa, honey, fish & crab SME (Small & Medium Enterprise) development
  • Fish, rice, crab fattening, vegetable cultivation, duck rearing, crab gear making by women and handicraft production by women headed family.
  • Establish link to tourism authority for the sale of beneficiaries handicrafts.
  • Coordination with Co-Management Committee (CMC), Mongla Port Authority for employment opportunity of the Sundarbans stakeholder and Bangladesh Tourism Corporation.
  • Lean period livelihood support.
  • Training on adaptive rice, fish, shrimp, vegetable on sustainable harvesting/ conservation regulation, law, risk reduction strategies & coping mechanisms.
  • Legal Aid support through Sundarbans Stakeholder Service Center (SSSC).
